Tech inspection
Tech inspection is a pre-event safety check of your car and gear: brakes, fluids, tires, loose items, battery and helmet.
Also called: tech, safety inspection, scrutineering
Before you go on track, organizers want to know your car is safe. Tech inspection checks the essentials: brake pads with enough material, fresh fluid with no leaks, tires in good condition, wheels torqued, a securely tied-down battery, no loose items in the cabin or trunk, and a helmet that meets the event's standard.
Some organizations inspect at the track, others ask you or a shop to complete a form beforehand. Either way, the responsibility for the car's condition remains yours. A tech sticker means it passed a basic check, not that it is guaranteed safe.
Remove floor mats, everything in the glovebox and door pockets, and anything in the trunk that could fly around. Check wheel lug nuts again between sessions, and look under the car for drips. A careful self-check is one of the best habits you can build.
A loose item or failing part can cause a crash; tech inspection catches the common problems before they reach the track.
