01How we map tracks

Open data, labelled honestly.

  • OSM-mapped layout

The centerline is traced by OpenStreetMap volunteers from imagery, usually within a few metres. TRACK finds each closed loop and measures it.

  • Estimated / mapped start-finish

Lines come from an OpenStreetMap start/finish point (mapped, unverified) or TRACK’s estimate beside the pit lane or on the longest straight. Lap times stay right even if it’s a few metres off.

  • Location only

239 more US venues are in the Atlas with a location but no mapped loop. TRACK learns their layout from your laps; pages for them come later.

Track geometry © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the ODbL 1.0. Venue names and locations from Wikidata (CC0) and TRACK’s list. Venue names belong to their owners; TRACK isn’t affiliated with any venue and shows no lap records or official results.

FAQ

Track maps, answered.

What is a track day?
How do I find a track day near me?

Use “Tracks near me” above (your location stays in your browser) or pick your state. Each track page links to the venue’s website, where its calendar lists track days and HPDE events. TRACK doesn’t list events itself yet.

Where do these track maps come from?

From OpenStreetMap, the open map built by volunteers, via the TRACK Atlas. TRACK finds every closed loop in each venue’s raceway network, measures it, and estimates the start/finish line. The maps are © OpenStreetMap contributors and the data is available under the ODbL.

Are the lengths official?

No. They are lengths of the mapped centerline. Where a published length exists, TRACK cross-checks it: most agree within 3%, and the page says when they don’t.

Is my track missing?

The Atlas holds 335 US venues. 96 have layouts mapped in OpenStreetMap and are listed here; the rest are known by location only, and TRACK learns their layout from your first session.
