Track day

A track day is an event where drivers pay to drive their own cars on a race circuit, without racing, in organized sessions.

Also called: open track day, lapping day, open lapping

A track day is exactly what it sounds like: a day when a circuit opens for ordinary drivers to lap in their own cars. Some are formal HPDE events with classroom sessions and instructors; others are open lapping days for experienced drivers with less structure.

Either way, you get several sessions on track, separated into groups. Passing rules, flags and safety procedures still apply. There are no race positions; the only competition is with yourself.

Book an event that matches your experience. If it is your first time, choose one with instruction. Bring a helmet, plenty of water, a tire pressure gauge, and a basic toolkit, and get your car checked beforehand. Track days are the right place to explore performance, never public roads.

Why it matters

Track days give you legal, controlled space to explore your car's limits, far from public roads.
