Run group
A run group is a set of drivers of similar experience who share track sessions at an event, from novice to advanced.
Also called: session group, driver group
Track events divide drivers into run groups so that everyone on track at once has similar skills and expectations. Groups often run from novice, usually with instructors and strict passing rules, through intermediate to advanced, where passing may be allowed in more places.
Each group gets its own sessions, typically 20 to 30 minutes, several times a day. Between sessions, you check the car, rehydrate, debrief with your instructor and sometimes attend classroom sessions.
Groups are not a badge to rush through. You move up when an instructor or the organizer signs you off, based on safety, awareness and consistency rather than raw lap times. Know your group's schedule, be at grid on time, and listen for the call to the track.
Grouping drivers by experience keeps speed differences and expectations manageable, which keeps everyone safer.
