- 6.2 L V8 (LT1, dry sump with Z51 / Grand Sport) / 6.2 L supercharged V8 (LT4, Z06)
- Power
- 455–460 hp (LT1); 650 hp (LT4 Z06)
- Weight
- ≈3,440 lb (Stingray Z51); ≈3,520 lb (Z06)
- Layout
- Front-engine
- Drive
- RWD
These are starting points gathered from the sources listed at the bottom, not a guarantee. Cars, tires and parts vary: have a reputable alignment shop set your car, check factory specs for road use, and change one thing at a time.
01On track
- +Factory dry sump, eLSD and track cooling on Z51 and Grand Sport
- +GM-published track alignment that needs only cam adjustment and, on some trims, a washer change
- +Very wide Grand Sport / Z06 tires (285 front, 335 rear)
- +Magnetic dampers and stability-control track modes help newer drivers build pace safely
- −Z06 (especially 2015–2016) can overheat and go into limp mode in hot, continuous sessions
- −Heavier than C5/C6; brakes and tires work hard
- −Aggressive GM track alignment wears tires quickly on the street
- −Z06 power can overwhelm 200TW tires: traction management is the main skill
02Alignment
Where to start the alignment.
| Front | Rear | |
|---|---|---|
| Camber | about -3.0° on DOT race radials | about -2.0° (GM track spec) |
| Toe | per GM track spec as a start | 0.05° in per side |
Going past the GM front figure takes aftermarket camber hardware. Hoosier recommends about -3° for its DOT radials and warns that less than -2.5° wears the outer shoulder.

Dedicated track compound pads for the factory calipers (Vorshlag offers G-LOC pre-bedding for C7 pad sets); Z07 cars have carbon-ceramic rotors that need pads matched to them
Motul RBF600 / RBF660
Z51 already has slotted rotors and brake-cooling ducts. Fluid boil is the first brake limit once a Z06 runs longer sessions. [3,5,9]
04Known issues on track
Fix these before they find you.
Z06 heat soak and limp mode
Early Z06s overheated on track in heat. A shop test at a hot track logged over 260°F water and near 300°F oil with limp mode after about six laps; LG Motorsports reported stock cars overheating around lap six versus 11–12 laps with their cooling package. For 2017 GM revised the supercharger and raised the hood, which helped but did not eliminate reports on hot days. Plan short sessions and cool-down laps, and consider an upgraded radiator / intercooler package. [2,3,4]
Brakes boil once cooling is fixed
In LG Motorsports' test the next limit after cooling upgrades was brake fluid boiling. Use high-boiling racing fluid and track pads before chasing more laps. [3,9]
Track alignment tire wear and warranty
GM warns its track alignment can cause excessive tire wear, that wear and the alignment change are not covered by warranty, and that the car should be returned to factory settings after the event. [1,6]
05Modification roadmap
In the order that pays off.
- 0Safety & reliability first
Safety and reliability first
- High-boiling fluid and track padsFluid boil is a documented limit on hard-driven C7s.
- Z06: radiator / supercharger cooling upgrade or strict session managementPrevents heat soak and limp mode on hot days.
- Confirm Z51 package contents (dry sump, coolers, ducts) on non-Z06 carsA base Stingray without Z51 lacks much of the track hardware.
- 1Tires & alignment
Tires and alignment
- GM track alignmentFactory-published, cheap and transforms front grip.
- 200TW endurance tiresMore consistent over a session than street summer tires.
- 2Suspension & brakes
Suspension
- Camber hardware for more front camberNeeded to get beyond -2.0° for race tires.
- 3Power & aero
Power last
- Leave the LT4 alone until cooling is provenExtra boost adds heat to a system that is already the weak link.

What each upgrade is worth on this car.
Pick upgrades and see the estimated lap-time change on a reference circuit, how much margin your brakes and engine have late in a session, and which changes buy durability rather than speed.

Estimates from a simplified point-mass lap simulation of Corvette Stingray Z51 / Grand Sport / Z06 C7 (3,441 lb, 455 hp) on a fictional circuit, with generic effects for each upgrade category. Good for comparing options on the same car, not for predicting your lap time. Real results depend on the driver, the exact parts, the track and the conditions. Durability starts lower on this car because of its known issues: heat.
