Corner weight & cross weight calculator
Put the car on four scales with the driver (or ballast) in the seat, enter each corner, and the calculator gives the weight distribution and cross weight, the number corner balancing aims to get close to 50%.
Total
3000lb
Front
53.7%
Left
50.3%
Cross (RF+LR)
49.3%
Cross weight is low by 0.7%. Raise the RF or LR corner (or lower LF or RR) a little and re-weigh.
Weigh with the driver or ballast in the seat, usual fuel load, level floor, and tires at their normal pressures.
How it works
- 1Front % = (LF + RF) ÷ total. Left % = (LF + LR) ÷ total.
- 2Cross weight = (RF + LR) ÷ total. At 50% the car turns the same both ways on flat ground.
- 3To raise cross weight, add preload (raise) at the RF or LR corner, or remove it at LF or RR. Small changes, then re-weigh.
FAQ
Does cross weight change front or left percentage?
Not meaningfully. Front and left percentages come from where the mass sits. Spring preload moves load diagonally, which is what cross weight measures.
Should I corner balance with the driver in?
Yes, or with equivalent ballast in the seat, plus your usual fuel load. Otherwise the balance is right for an empty car.
